  • Director: Good afternoon Mr. Smith. Thank you for coming.

Mr. Smith: Well, I  can't say that I'm happy to be here.

Director: Oh, and why is that? You had scheduled a meeting with my secretary for this afternoon.

Mr. Smith: I didn't schedule any meeting, I can assure you. The employment agency made the appointment on my behalf. I'm only here in order to remain eligible for my unemployment allowance.

Director: So you mean to tell me that you have no interest in the position of assistant toilet operative?

Mr. Smith. That's correct. I have no interest whatsoever in the job.

Director: How extraordinary. Although it did seem odd that a man with a Cambridge degree would apply for such a position.

Mr. Smith: Indeed, and now you know the reason for my presence, could you sign here please? It's a form to record my attendance that I need to give to the unemployment agency.

    Director: Very well.

Mr. Smith. Thank you. It's a beautiful day so I'm going to enjoy the sunshine.
